ABOUT

GOTRASAWALA is an international festival platform to introduce a large variety and high quality West Javanese arts and culture to the world. In its second year, the festival has already gained significant result. This year, the director of OzAsia Festival in Adelaide, whoattended Gotrasawala last year, has invitedand exhibited the unique tradition of Cirebon mask in OzAsia Festival 2015.

Gotrasawala Ensemble has also been invited to perform at the highly prestigious world music festivals in Samarkand called Sharq Taronalari and Jeonju International Sori Festival in Korea. This ensemble was developed as a collaborative musical project during the first Gotrasawala Festival in 2013. The members consist of Sundanese musicians from Bandung and renowned female singer/songwriter from Spain, Ana Alcaide. The album they produced in the 2nd year of collaboration: The Tale of Pangae has been performed and aired in the European World Music Chart for a few months since June 2015 and received many good reviews across Europe.

The Gotrasawala Exhibition will feature a daily life of the Sultan of Cirebon within his surrounding court cultural tradition. There will be major exhibition of superb quality of Cirebonese court Batik tradition specifically designed by the renowned local Batik artisan, Mr. Komarudin Kudiya. The exhibition will take place at the Kasepuhan Court complex.

The Gotrasawala seminar will bear the theme West Java: Past, Present and Future. The focus of the seminar will be on contemporary local arts, literature, historical and cultural issues. However, scholars and experts will continue to explorethe topic of Gotrasawala itself--a global cultural gathering organized by the Prince Wangsakerta in the late 17th century, which has inspired the festival today. As the closing of the seminar, Gotrasawala will launch major trilogy novel based on the hstory of Tarumanegara written by Okki Jusuf Judanagara.

Other performances that cover a wide ranging of West Javanese arts, craft, and culinary will also embrace the Past, Present and Future theme.

Come and enjoy the 3rd Gotrasawala Festival 2015 in the holy city of Cirebon!
